If blood is detected through a fecal occult blood test, additional tests may be needed to determine the source of the bleeding. The fecal occult blood test can only detect the presence or absence of blood — it can’t determine what’s causing the bleeding. A fecal occult blood test isn’t recommended if you have colon cancer symptoms. If you notice blood in your stool or in the toilet or if you experience abdominal pain or a change in your bowel habits, make an appointment with your doctor. If you receive a positive result you may wish to investigate this further with your GP. What’s in the box? The faecal occult blood (FOB) test detects small amounts of blood in your faeces, which you would not normally see or be aware of.
There are several disorders which may cause bleeding into the gut (intestine) – for example, gastric or duodenal ulcers, ulcerative colitis, bowel polyps and bowel (colorectal) cancer.
The test can detect faecal occult blood at 50 ng/ml or higher, or 6 μg/g faeces. A positive result identifying blood in your poo will be visible in just 5 minutes.
Provides simple positive or negative results. Fully CE approved for self-testing
If you receive a positive result you may wish to investigate this further with your GP.
